Part 12: THANKS FOR PARTICIPATING | How to Lecture in Higher Education
Переглядів 189Рік тому
Many thanks for listening, as I've described my lecturing techniques. I urge you to use the ideas in this course as a jumping-off point for your teaching. As a beginner, it is perhaps enough to lecture; I can understand that. As you become experienced, you can try out more techniques and approaches. Take a look at the content you teach and decide what areas can be modified to include, for examp...
Part 11: EVALUATING A LECTURE | How to Lecture in Higher Education
Переглядів 180Рік тому
By evaluating your own lecturing as a university teacher, you can ensure that you provide your students with the best possible learning experience. There are a few ways to do that. One way is to ask your students for feedback through conversations or anonymous questionnaires. You can also observe how your students respond to the presentation, for example, if they struggle to understand concepts...
Part 10: DELIVERING A LECTURE | How to Lecture in Higher Education
Переглядів 132Рік тому
Many people get anxious about speaking in front of a large group when it comes to presentations. This is also true for university teachers, who must give their students lectures regularly. Thankfully, we can reduce the stress before and during speaking in front of our classes in several ways. How to handle the fear of public speaking: It is crucial to understand that public speaking anxiety is ...
Part 9: COPYRIGHT AND OWNERSHIP | How to Lecture in Higher Education
Переглядів 37Рік тому
Copyright and Ownership: I use my computer, software, and microphone to record and edit at home. The finished videos are uploaded, archived, and shared via my educational UA-cam channel. Some videos are open to the public, and others are only visible to those with the video's link. I distribute the links to my students via the password-protected course website or mail. My overall goal is to sep...
Part 8: EDUCATIONAL VIDEOS | How to Lecture in Higher Education
Переглядів 68Рік тому
Lecture videos: Different types of lecture videos provide flexibility for you and your students. A short educational video should be approximately 5-10 minutes. Perhaps you want your students to see how to set up and run a chemistry experiment before they get to your lab. Then record yourself doing it first as you explain the steps and what students should expect to see when they do it themselv...
Part 7: USING DIGITAL ASSETS | How to Lecture in Higher Education
Переглядів 36Рік тому
Using digital assets to enhance the lecture: Don't be afraid to jump from your presentation to a real-world example and back again. It will provide a micro-break from your slides and allow your students to analyze things from different perspectives. In today's modern world, there are plenty of digital assets that you can use in your lecture. Earlier, I mentioned data visualizations, digital ill...
Part 6: PLANNING A LECTURE | How to Lecture in Higher Education
Переглядів 209Рік тому
Virtually all planning should start with the course curricula and lesson plans. Study the planned learning outcomes, i.e., what the students should know and be able to do after the course. Then, design the lessons so that you help the students obtain that goal. A lesson plan could include the following as an example: • The name of the department and the course and your name. • The overall goal ...
Part 5: MISTAKES AND PROBLEMS | How to Lecture in Higher Education
Переглядів 69Рік тому
Mistakes and problems: One mistake I often make during lecturing is forcing the students to multitask too much. Beginner students have not yet learned how to take notes and try to capture too much in their notebooks. They try to copy everything I show. They cannot digest the visual information and write it down while listening to what I'm saying. The natural way to solve this is to slow down an...
Part 4: TERMS AND TECHNOLOGIES | How to Lecture in Higher Education
Переглядів 42Рік тому
Terminology and technology. Let's review some standard terms and technologies for higher education lecturing. Digital assets: I use PowerPoint slides and, if appropriate, digital assets, for example, data visualizations, websites, digital illustrations, social media content, and short video clips. They are perfect for explaining things and injecting something new into my stream of ordinary pres...
Part 3: OVERVIEW OF LECTURING | How to Lecture in Higher Education
Переглядів 94Рік тому
This lesson aims to provide a quick overview of what lecturing means to me. There are many different ways to work as a lecturing university teacher, but here's a description of what I value. What is lecturing? A university lecturer is a teacher in a higher education institution who gives lectures to students. A lecture is a talk given to an audience to inform, instruct, or inspire them. Lecturi...

Hi! I'm Kent Lofgren, a higher education teacher for many years. I've been dedicated to building and delivering quality lectures to students on all levels on campus and online. For me, a typical lecture is given to large groups of students to provide information or knowledge about a particular topic. Hi! When refering to a journal article for 3 or more authors, is it the authors first name or sur name that has to be referred to? Tack på förhand :)

H!i In the running text, write the first author's family name and "et al." For example: Similar results have been reported in previous research (Smith, et al., 2024). See the timestamp 1:36 in this video. Good luck with your writing.

Nobody films anything without a film movie camera; it's video recording. That is an example of ontological thinking. aka REALITY.

Thank you for your comment. It all started in 2008, when a student of mine asked, "how do I start numbering from page 3 with the digit 1?" And I decided to just record and post something quickly. I had no idea that this video would live this long ;-)

The best video on normality tests because unlike most others that that tell you to use skewness, kurtosis, histogram, blah blah, you explain step by step how to carry out a normality test, how to interpret the outcomes and how to report findings. Thanks a great deal Kent.

Does anyone have a software they recommend to analyze interviews? I am doing research that is not part of a University of Institution. I will have to analyze about 100 interviews that are 6 questions. My boss is wanting to use Jotform but I don't think that will work for that kind of qualitative analysis? Do you recommend Invivo? Or can I just use word?

    • @kentlofgren
      @kentlofgren 5 місяців тому

Hi! I think in this case it would be a lot of hard, manual labour. In other words, I do not think you need special software, Invivo or similar. Just go through them, on question at a time. Suggestions: Do one question, and present the major finding to your boss, and ask: will this be OK? Can I do the rest, in the same way? Good luck with your project.

The video is one sided. There are only theories presented. Knowledge is a characteristic of a soul. The soul must preexist the Knowledge according to metaphysics. Therefore, Knowledge is not a theory, but an Energy.

How is the knowledge that’s studied in epistemology different from the knowledge that people with average intelligence possess! And by normal people I mean people who don’t have any type of “Intellectual/Developmental Disability” that would impair their ability to acquire knowledge in ordinary ways?
